In this modern age, it is always good to see good craftsmanship in an older home and all the original details that made it special in its time. This little yellow house in White Sulphur Springs shares so many little old charming surprises alongside all those updates that make a home liveable in the present. We thought we would share with you a few things about this home that we especially liked and hope it will make you want to stop by and see for yourself!
Not only is the wide front porch an inviting spot to sit and enjoy the cool summer evenings (a definite past time), but walking in the front door will immediately make you feel at home surrounded by natural chestnut woodworkings and the staircase. Even the floor has a beautiful wood design that brings visual interest.
One really cool little feature in this home is this original light switch that rests just inside the opening to the living room down low. The original owners installed this switch and wiring to run outside and connect to their outdoor Christmas lights so that they could turn them on with the flip of a switch from the warmth of the indoors! How cool is that?! It still works!
Each room upon entering the home is a perfect spot for intimate gatherings, living life simply and comfortably. The center of the house, the kitchen, has in more recent years been completely gutted and renovated. With plenty of counter space, a pantry, and ample cabinetry you can be sure to have room for all of your cooking needs.
One place you can really notice all of the solid chestnut doors and their original glass doorknobs are in the dining room! Connected to all of the spaces, it can continue to be used for family dinners or be a space for bigger possibilities! You can even get a peek of a bedroom/office space in this view.
Even on a cold January day, the laundry/mudroom fills with beautiful light in the afternoon through the newer french doors that open up onto the back deck. Not a bad place to come in the back door after a busy day at work with so much room.
An older home with 4 bedrooms usually means that the master bedroom is going to be smaller as well. Not with this one! Two rooms were combined to make one big room with his and her closets. One of which was added to give more storage space.
One more thing that was done in this home was updating both the upstairs and downstairs bathrooms. Here you can see that there was built a custom ledge in the window where plants can rest. So much sunlight!
It just makes you want to make yourself right at home. We can’t leave this without mentioning that there is also a completely rebuilt 2 car detached garage in the back with plenty of room to park and stay awhile.
